plonc. Lightness of Being

Studies in small-format material behaviour

The study of small format tiles emerged from observing how light behaves across repeated surfaces.

Where large format tiles register terrain, smaller modules register atmosphere. Reflection becomes distributed, fragmented, and intensified.

Through variations in glaze depth, firing sequence, and proportion, each tile participates in the movement of light throughout the day. Reflection is not applied as image, but released through material condition.

Within the plonc. Intra-Tile Architecture framework, these surfaces operate as fields rather than graphics. Each module behaves as a small instrument of light, contributing to spatial continuity that cannot be achieved through print or pattern alone.

Developed through ongoing glaze and firing studies.
