Ozpandi Stone
Material Investigation No. 12
Material Genesis
Ozpandi Stone Terrazzo emerged through a desire to reconsider terrazzo as geological assemblage rather than decorative surface. Instead of reducing stone to repeated aggregate, the work restores the individuality of each fragment, allowing every inclusion to retain its own material history.
The result is an authored porcelain surface where difference is preserved rather than concealed.
Material Translation
Irregular mineral fragments of varying scale, colour and geometry are held together within a unified porcelain body. Rather than producing visual uniformity, the composition celebrates geological diversity, allowing the surface to read as sedimentary accumulation rather than decorative pattern.
Light, texture and proximity continually reveal new relationships between the mineral forms.
Architectural Behaviour
Ozpandi Stone Terrazzo responds quietly to changing light. Individual aggregates emerge and recede throughout the day, creating subtle movement without visual excess.
Within architecture, the material anchors space through geological presence, rewarding close observation while maintaining compositional restraint.
Design Philosophy
Within plonc.’s Intra-Tile Architecture framework, Ozpandi Stone Terrazzo rejects the decorative language traditionally associated with terrazzo.
Instead, it treats each mineral inclusion as matter carrying its own geological memory, allowing architecture to engage with assemblage, material authenticity and permanence rather than ornament.
Material Character
Ozpandi Stone Terrazzo is composed, grounded and enduring.
Its strength lies not in repetition but in the individuality of each mineral fragment. The material communicates permanence through geological complexity, encouraging spaces that become richer through occupation and time.
Material Information
Format: 1200 × 600 × 9 mm
Finish: Matte porcelain with integrated stone-inspired relief
Colour register: Warm mineral greys with natural stone aggregate variation
Material Availability
Ozpandi Stone Terrazzo represents a completed material investigation.
plonc. does not produce materials to saturate the market. Some works remain intentionally limited, allowing each architectural project to retain a sense of authorship and distinction rather than becoming visually commonplace.
Only one pallet from the original production remains available.
Once allocated, this material investigation will conclude permanently. Future works may continue the Ozpandi lineage, but they will be authored as new investigations rather than reproductions of this surface.
